Author Spotlight: Brad Boyer

Hi! Welcome to today's spotlight: Brad Boyer! Let's learn a little about him.

I began writing about 15 years ago as a hobby but never thought about doing it for a living.  But as I completed more and more novels, I started to wonder if I could be truly good at it, to be able to keep up with so many other great authors.  So, I began to slowly release them as ebooks...  I still don't know the answer to my question, but I am having fun writing with the added bonus of people other than me reading my material.  I also know I have to continuously strive to get better and better.
Al Qaeda - The Hunt for Ali Muhammad and Al Qaeda - The Double Sword were so much fun to write.  This Jack Novak series was born from all my crazy dreams as I sleep.  I can't count how many times I am running down a steep mountain from a predator or maybe a raging volcano, or shooting bad guys in some dense, hot jungle, or how many high-speed car chases in the middle of some big city with way to many cars on the road I have been in.  I am often more tired initially when I wake then when I went to bed from all the insanity!

So, I brought them to life with Jack Novak.  I wanted to create a character that was not just some Rambo, but a human being with real problems, issues, dreams, and a life.  Initially, the young man is new at the game and still figuring things out as he encounters chaotic and dangerous situations. But as the series progresses, he becomes more methodical, more lethal, one crazy individual, and is always in some sort of calamity with bad guys trying to kill him.  I love the action, simply because I get it almost every night!  And I have a few more to write hopefully in the near future.
As for my latest ebook, Endless Possibilities, well, check out my video, then click on the photo to read the description of this AMAZING 23 year in-the-making story!!

Outside of the novels, I have written several other smaller pieces.  One of them is - 'A Recipe for Permanent Weight Loss .' It is much shorter than the action stories I love to write, but I think the most important as the obesity rate in the world increases.  I purposely wrote it differently than most weight loss books.  I wanted to teach the reader to understand WHY they are obese before learning how to lose the weight.  You have to know the rules before you can play the game.  And therefore, it is the PERFECT RECIPE!

Happy reading!

Sunday Spotlight: Rock and Roll Saved My Soul

Hello and Welcome to Sunday's Spotlight! Let me introduce you to Rock and Roll Saved my Soul!

Rock & Roll Saved My Soul was founded by Kate Marie Robbins in July of 2013 with the help of Jen Robbins, Arminta Dellow, and Sandy Ashley. It started out as a small idea to help a charity called Rock the Cause by putting together stories about how music positively impacts lives. In the end, it became so much more than that. We are now run by a team of 16, over several social media platforms. And a subpage, called The LOVE Project that focuses on loving yourself and the world. Rock & Roll Saved My Soul is now a charity publishing company that not only puts together anthologies for many different charities, it helps authors publish their anthologies and novels for charity. Currently we work with one author on her anthology series and are in the works to start on another series with another author, as well as one for a woman who is not an author, but feels very strongly about her cause. RRSMS has published anthologies for: Rock the Cause, War Dogs Making It Home, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, STOMP Out Bullying, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, HOPE Coalition. Our next anthology, I Am Loved, which is set to release September 2, 2016 will benifit The Trevor Project.

We always have anthologies accepting submissions, including: Everyday Miracles, Rise Above, Notes of Dreams, and Fighting Chance Volume Two.

Author Spotlight: Tim Baker

So I'm joining a team where we do this really cool thing. On Wednesdays we do author spotlights and on Sundays we do blogger spotlights. Fun, right? Let's dive right in to our first author! Allow me to introduce Tim Baker!

Two years later that novel, Living the Dream, was released.
Since then, Tim has released seven novels, all taking place in the seaside community of Flagler Beach, the place he now calls home. He has also written a collection of short stories based upon his iconic and charismatic anti-hero Ike, as well as co-written two zombie novellas.
The rising popularity of Tim’s work has drawn comparisons to the likes of Elmore Leonard, Tim Dorsey, Carl Hiassen and Randy Wayne White…all of which Tim welcomes with pride.
When he isn’t writing Tim can be heard on Flagler Beach’s radio station Surf 97.3 FM (www.flaglerbeachradio.com) weekday mornings from 10:00-1:00 and Friday nights from 7:00-10:00.
Some of the interests he has no time for are motorcycles, scuba diving and sports of all kinds – with a special lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox.
Look for Tim’s next novel, Blood in the Water, in the fall of 2016.
Connect with Tim on the internet at www.blindoggbooks.com.

And here's a little bit about his book:

"Living the Dream" is a semi-humorous crime story about a loser named Kurt who thinks that his ticket to Easy Street lies in a half-baked kidnapping plot. After the road trip from hell he arrives in Florida to find that Vicky, his intended victim, is out of town. Vicky's husband, Jimmy, is thinking of divorcing her and probably won't pay the ransom anyway. And Leslie, Jimmy's mistress, wants a piece of Kurt's action. Just to make matters worse, Kurt has a bookie, a biker and an ex-Navy SEAL all wanting a piece of his hide. Kurt had no idea that kidnapping was such hard work. His plan might work if it doesn't get him killed first.

My Review:
This was such a fun read and it definitely kept me on my toes. It was filled with intrigue, romance, and revenge.
Lexi was an interesting character. And the whole plan to help her father in prison was brilliant, but a little stupid. There were so many times I thought she was going to be caught or worse.
I loved reading Christian's POV. The danger that followed him really pulled me in, and was what kept me on my toes. And that final heist at the end! I swear I was going to have a stroke. They had me worrying and scared. And with good reason.
The relationship between Lexi and Christian was such a fun one to watch. There was so much push and pull that kept you invested. And anytime they got together in a scene I basically had this song stuck in my head, Partners in Crime by Set it Off.
The one thing that I felt we didn't get enough of was the side characters. Like there should be prequels or something about the side characters and how they all got together. I really wanted to know more about Quinn and Whitney,Elena and Oliver, and even Eddie and Theresa. Actually, I just really want another book on Eddie and Theresa.
For those looking for a fun summer heist book, this is perfect for you and I would completely recommend it.

Happy Reading!

Wounded by Krystal George

Title: Wounded

Author: Krystal George
Genres: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Synopsis: Military life wasn't for her.
After watching her mother suffer in silence her whole life, Emma Malone has vowed that she won't make the same mistakes. She was going to leave for college and never look back.
However, living on a military installation makes avoiding soldiers next to impossible. So when Cole Baker walks into her life and plants his feet firmly inside of it, her whole world gets turned upside down and his smile blows her plans out the window.
Sparks fly and romance ignites during a summer filled with love and acceptance, but Cole has a secret that could destroy the entire foundation of their trust and remind Emma why she took her vow in the first place.
Follow both Emma and Cole along with a few of their friends on a journey of love, friendship, forgiveness, and goodbyes in a time of war in a situation beyond anyone's control.

My review: Oh my word! So many feelings and emotions with this one! The characters felt real with their problems. Emma's relationship with her parents makes sense and as did everyone else's. When I began, I basically figured we would get heart breaking back stories and bright looking futures. Boy, was I wrong about the futures part! Not everyone got a happy ending and some took longer to find happiness.
Though I will admit the constant changing POVs was hard to get used to at first. But once I got used to it, I was able to read through it smoothly.
We also learn from early on that Emma doesn't like her father, but by the end she does. We didn't get to see her patch up that bridge or see how her father changed. That was something I really wanted to see, but didn't.
Emma as a character was enjoyable. I really liked being in her head and seeing the progression of her thoughts. I really did like Maggie and Cole too, till the unfortunate incident at Maggie's house.
All in all, despite the minor mishaps, the book was enjoyable and I loved the ride and all the plot twists it gave. Which I did not expect any of those twists!

Happy Reading!

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Title: November 9
Author: Colleen Hoover
Genre: New Adult, Romance
Summary: Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

My Review:
So as usual, Colleen Hoover delivers an addicting read. I couldn't read it fast enough and the best part? She gives us what we want. You know those stories or movies where the two main characters only meet one day of the year and we get to see what they're up to when they're not together? Well Colleen didn't give us any of that. She gave us a little mini review of what happened over the year and then got to strait to the point- the relationship between Ben and Fallon.
Usually I can like any guy that is supposed to be paired with the main character, but I couldn't really get myself to like Ben (more on that in the spoiler bit).
Fallon was an interesting character. Her relationship with her father was complex. And her relationship with herself was a journey to see. She obviously wasn't comfortable in her own skin and to see anyone come to love themselves is always a great thing to see in books.

On to spoilers!
So most of this part is going to be spent talking about Ben. I don't get how this guy could get someone who was so uncomfortable with herself to strip down the first day that they met. Maybe it's because he admitted that he wanted to see her underwear. Which for me is a turn off. I don't want a guy I just met to tell me that he wants to know want kind of panties I'm wearing. Then there's that whole thing with his brother's widow! I get the getting closer to your dead brother's kid because it's something that you can hold on to (although trying to be an actual father to the kid is, I think, a bit to much), but getting with his wife? And within a year of him dying? Um... No thank you.
There's this whole thing where he doesn't get the "alpha male" hype. Sorry to say but some of those alpha males are more gentlemanly than he is.
The whole twist at the end, when Ben finally reveals that he's the one who set the fire to Fallon's house, I kind of expected it to be a where he's actually crazy and did it on purpose. But it was an accident... So I guess he gets off a little bit with that one.

Despite all the Ben flaws, I would recommend November 9. It's a quick read and it's entertaining to say the least.
