Author Spotlight: Ashlee Sinn

Ooh! Today's spotlight is going to fun! And maybe that's because I've read her books before and they were excellent. Seriously, check her out if you haven't before. Without further ado, here's Ashlee Sinn!

Ashlee Sinn fancies all creatures of the paranormal persuasion, especially those who like to bite. Her steamy romances tend to feature swoon-worthy heroes and kick-ass heroines. Whether its vampires, weres, or demons, the women who keep them in line have a special place in her heart. And in her chaotic head.

The first book of The Alaska Shifters – a spinoff from The Callaghan Clan books.

Derrick Ward has always wanted a mate. When all of his friends settle down and start a family, he wonders if it will ever happen for him. Brandt, his clan leader, has some females in mind, but Derrick refuses to accept a forced mating. And now the time has come for the shifters to reveal themselves. Derrick fears that once the world knows he’s a grizzly, he’ll never be able to find that right person to fill his den.

Julia Housten has been in love with Derrick for years. Still recovering from the negative reputation her father left behind by his failed challenge for clan leader, she worries that Derrick will never accept her as a potential mate. So when she has an opportunity to do something good for the clan, she can hardly contain herself when she learns she’ll be working with Derrick.

The International Shifter Coalition is moving forward with the big reveal while Julia and Derrick discover just how perfect they are together. But with the reveal comes a danger they hadn’t expected. A new threat that could tear them apart looms nearby, and it will take the whole clan to protect everything, and everyone, they love.

As I set down my fork after cleaning my plate of salmon, crab legs, and roasted potatoes, the smile grew on my face. “I seriously think that was the best dinner I’ve ever eaten as a human.”
Derrick smiled and took a drink of his wine. “As a human?”
I shrugged. “My bear likes raw salmon.”
“Isn’t that a stereotype?” he teased.
“Maybe, but it’s true. If you don’t know where I am, check down by the shore.”
“Good to know,” he said with a wicked grin. Raising his glass, he stretched out his arm in an offered toast. “To the last day of anonymity.”
The worry in his face ruined the handsome jawline. “It will be okay,” I said after I clinked my glass to his.
“Do you really think so?”
“I do,” I said, taking a sip. “People aren’t what they used to be. They’re more tolerable of differences and more curious about the unknown. I mean I think it will be a little rough for a while, but something else will come along that’s louder and shinier, and their interest will move on.” When Derrick just stared at me, I shook my head. “What?”
“Do you even understand how much I want to take you back to my place right now?”
“Huh?” Words simply wouldn’t form as the aroma of his bear filled the space around us. His hand found my knee under the table and the feeling of skin on skin ignited a fire of need in me that I hadn’t felt before.
“I will never forgive myself for wasting so much time with you.”
“What do you mean?”
“I knew you had a crush on me. The brothers teased me about it all of the time. But I wouldn’t listen. I refused to listen. Even if, now that I can look back, even if my bear was trying to tell me otherwise.”
I swallowed the emotions welling up in my throat. “What are you saying, Derrick?”
“I’m saying that I want you to be mine. And I wish we hadn’t wasted so much time getting to this place, but now that we’re here…I don’t ever want us to be away from each other. These last few days have been torturous for me. My bear wants you. I want you.” Derrick lifted his hands and reached across the table for my own. When I placed them inside of his, he smiled. “You’re my mate, and I love you.”

Artist Spotlight: Regina Wamba

I'm excited for this artist spotlight! Meet Regina! Cover artist extraordinaire!

I’m an eternal optimist; negativity only serves as an anchor to creativity. Hate is a four letter word.

I graduated in 2006 from Brown College with a Degree in Visual Communications (Graphic Design). In 2010, I joined a forum and started doing fan art, using my design to make art from the books I read. While there, I met authors and the idea of covers and self-published work snowballed into what I’ve built today.

I loathe socks . . . absolutely detest those suckers . . . creeping down my foot, slouching into my boots, crinkling between the toes. <shivers>

Striving for excellence, and pushing myself to always step outside of the box, is something of a hobby of mine.

But I don’t want to reach the top without a crowd of peers around me, so I look to push people to find their passions and grab hold—no matter how nauseating that might be. Lift as you climb!

My clients include: Amazon, Atria Books, Random House, Penguin Books, Skyscape, Montlake Romance, Jessica Sorensen, Gail McHugh, Cambria Hebert, Leslie Dover, Lexi Blake, Micalea Smeltzer, Amy Bartol, and hundreds more.

If you hire me, my focus will be on designing you a cover with originality and significance.

Seriously! Go take a look at her website! I'm obsessed with her covers!
That's all for now. See you soon!
Happy Reading!

Author Spotlight: Micalea Smeltzer

Hello and welcome to today's spotlight! Allow me to introduce Micalea!

Hi. I’m Micalea. Ma-call-e-uh. Weird name, I know. My mom must’ve known I was going to be odd even in the womb. I’ve written a lot of books. Like a lot. Don’t ask me how many, I don’t remember at this point. I have an unhealthy addiction to Diet Coke but I can’t seem to break the habit. I listen to way too much music and hedgehogs have taken over my life. Crazy is the word that best sums up my life, but it’s the good kind of crazy and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Excerpt for When Stars Collide

We were like two stars orbiting each other—dancing around the possibility that one day we might collide. When we finally did, we opened up a black hole, obliterating everything around us. No one would be the same.
Least of all, us.

Waking up in Vegas married to the guy of your dreams sounds like a good thing, right? Not when you’re Thea Montgomery and said guy is your brother’s best friend.

Thea and Xander have always avoided the connection between them because her brother would never approve. Now, they’re married— the strongest bond you can have as a couple—and they’re not even a real couple…unless they want to be.

Thea wants an annulment immediately, but Xander’s waited too long to see her become his and he won’t let her go easily.

If she wants a divorce, fine, but he wants the summer to convince her that he’s the one. If at the end of the summer she still wants to end their marriage he’ll sign the papers, but until then…

All is not fair in love and war.

Author Spotlight: Chasity Tarantino

I'm so excited for this author spotlight! Allow me to introduce my good friend, Chasity Tarantino!

And here's a little bit about her:

Chasity Tarantino currently resides in Highland, Indiana.  Reading has always been a huge passion of hers. There is nothing better than being able to escape reality for a little while and delve into a new world created just for entertainment to her. To her books are golden and they are the most magical thing in this world. She began writing when she was in the fourth grade and has been writing ever since. She is currently attending Ashford University to complete her BA in English. When she is not reading or writing is listening to music, crocheting, or hanging out with her family.  She lives with her husband and her doggie Chloe, she considers herself the luckiest girl in the world to have those two who constantly support her and a loving family who have always had her back. Her first published work was a short story named “You’re Still the One” which was featured in an Anthology called, “My Life Would Suck Without You” and her upcoming debut novel, “Warped Love” will be her first full length novel.

Here's an exert from her upcoming work, Warped Love.

Finally after much debate in his own mind, he got up and made his way to the bar.
The seat next to her was vacant so he took it and motioned to the bartender, letting him know that he needed a drink. He then glanced at the girl next to him, only to meet her gaze; she was looking right at him. She smiled; then quickly looked back at her drink.
He smirked, but she didn’t see it. She was even more beautiful up close. There was definitely no turning back now, he licked his lips and began to say something to her, but before he could get it out the bartender came over and said,
“What can I get you?” in a cheery tone.
“A gin and tonic, please.” Camden ordered.
“Sure thing.” The bartender agreed, heading off to make his drink.
“Hi.” Camden whispered in the girl’s direction.
She glanced up quickly to see if he was talking to her, when she seen that he was indeed talking to her.
“Hi.” She muttered back quietly; then she quickly scanned the bar behind her.
Camden thought she looked nervous, maybe even scared. He wondered what that was all about, when she was finally convinced that the area around her was safe, she looked back at Camden.
“Having a good time at the party?” He questioned, even though she clearly was not.
“Yeah, I really like the band and this new album is really good too.” She nearly whispered, looking at her clutch.
So not only was she absolutely gorgeous, but she liked his music and she like it for the actual music, not him. This just  got better and better.
When he didn’t answer her she asked,
“What do you think of this band?”
He smiled widely at her.
“Well I think my opinion is a bit biased.”
She looked at him puzzled.
He laughed,
“I’m Camden, bassist of ‘Four Aces’.” He said, extending his hand out to her.
She laughed,
“Well then Camden, I’d say you are completely biased.” She agreed, shaking his hand.
“I’m Jazlyn.”
Again she looked around her surroundings, before her attention went back to Camden.
“Something wrong?” He finally questioned.
“No, not at all.” She responded, but didn’t meet his gaze.
He just nodded; he didn’t believe her at all. He knew it had something to do with her boyfriend. This made Camden angry for some reason, he couldn’t pinpoint why though.
“Well thank you for coming out and supporting the new album.” Camden said appreciatively.
She smiled at him.
“Glad to help.”
Her smile was breathtaking and he could feel it melting him completely to his core. The intense color of her eyes made him positive he could fall into them.  He knew in that moment that those piercing eyes would haunt him forever.
“So what do you…” Camden began, but he was interrupted by a man walking up to Jazlyn.
“Jazlyn let’s go, I’m done. So we are out of here.” The guy that the voice belonged to grabbed Jazlyn by the arm; Camden could see that it was her boyfriend.
Camden frowned.
Jazlyn’s whole demeanor changed, she looked at the floor. Her shoulders sagged, she grabbed her purse; she looked like a scolded child.
“Nice meeting you.” Jazlyn muttered quietly to Camden, careful to avoid eye contact.
The boyfriend looked back at Camden and gave him a look that said, ‘MINE!’
Then he quickly walked off dragging Jazlyn behind him. Camden watched the pair with a sinking feeling in his stomach. There was something seriously wrong with that relationship, but what could he do about it?

How excited are you for Warped Love now that you've read a little bit of it? I know I am!
You can find Chasity on Goodreads and you can find her short story in the anthology "My Life Would Suck Without You" on Amazon.
Please go check her out!

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Title: It Ends With Us
Author: Colleen Hoover
Genres: Romance, New Adult
Synopsis: Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

My review:
Holy crap. HOLY CRAP. This book, this author really knows  how to tug on your heartstrings. I honestly don't know how to talk about this book without going into spoilers. So there will be a spoilery part down a bit later.
One of the things I loved about this book was the characters. I loved how they all interact. I love how real they felt. I love how they all loved, cared for, and supported each other in their own ways.
Lily was such a fantastic character and I loved reading from her point of view. It was really eye opening. Her relationship with her parents, with Atlas and Ryle, with Issa. I loved seeing her interact with mostly everyone.
And that's it. That's all I can say really (I know it's not much) without spoiling anything. So I'm going to just dive right in. You have been warned.

I'm going to start off by saying that I seen massive spoilers about what this book was about before I read it. I knew Ryle abused her and I knew they got married and got divorced, and about Emmy. That's all I knew. So when we first met Ryle on the roof I rolled my eyes and practically screamed RUN AWAY! But of course since it's a book they couldn't hear me. So I rolled along with it. I do think the experience of reading it blind would have been more rewarding. But I think I'm also glad that I knew about the abuse part too. I had time to mentally prepare myself for those scenes.
I didn't fall in love with Ryle at all. There was no swooning, no nothing because of those spoilers I seen. Instead I fell in love with Atlas. I couldn't wait till we seen him present day. So when he popped up at the restaurant I squealed with joy. And the Ellen diaries? My favorite part.
Atlas has to be the sweetest guy. He got Ellen to sign her book for Lily. If he's not a winner, I don't know who is.
The one thing that really bummed me out was that it took them nearly ten years to finally be together. And we didn't even get to see him notice her tattoo! I really wanted to see his reaction for that.
I did not like, and probably the only thing I didn't like, was how it just ended. I wanted to see more Atlas, Lily, and Emmy. I wanted to see more bonding between Atlas and Emmy. I feel like I was robbed of that. I need a short story or something to make up for it.
I did love that we got to see the thought process behind Lily forgiving Ryle all those times before and then the points leading up to the divorce. It's always been hard for me to understand why anyone would stay in an abusive relationship and this did help shine a little light on it. It felt all real and I think that really helped.

That's it for this review. Thank you for visiting!
Happy reading!
